FAQs

What is therapy?

Therapy is a professional process where people meet with a trained mental health provider to talk about thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that cause distress and affect daily life. It helps individuals understand patterns, develop coping strategies, and improve emotional well-being through evidence-based techniques. In short, therapy provides a safe, supportive space to promote healing, personal growth, and lasting positive change.

How long does a typical therapy course last?

The length of a therapy course varies by goals and condition, but most short‑term treatments last 12 to 20 weekly sessions, or about 3 to 5 months. Many people continue therapy longer—6 months to a year or more—for ongoing growth or complex issues like trauma or chronic anxiety. Ultimately, therapy continues until you and your therapist agree that your goals have been met and the skills learned are integrated into daily life.

Key Benefits of Online Therapy
  • Convenient access from home or office

  • Secure and confidential virtual sessions

  • Flexible scheduling to fit your lifestyle

  • Personalized approach tailored to your goals

Is online therapy effective?

Yes. Extensive research shows that online therapy is just as effective as in‑person therapy for most mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, and trauma. Studies comparing the two formats found that clients receiving therapist‑guided online sessions experience symptom improvement, satisfaction, and treatment outcomes comparable to those receiving in-person sessions. Online therapy also offers added benefits such as flexibility, privacy, and easier access to care—helping many people begin and maintain treatment more consistently. (1)

What is the cost?

Costs vary based on the session type. Therapy sessions typically range from $165 to $225, depending on session length and the type of service. While this may feel like a significant investment, therapy offers something far more lasting than a single appointment—it supports your emotional health, relationships, and daily functioning.

Think of therapy as investing in your peace, confidence, and clarity. Just as people invest in physical health, education, or career growth, investing in your mental well‑being delivers returns that improve every part of life—from how you handle stress to how you connect with others. The value of therapy isn’t just in the session itself, but in the lasting freedom, balance, and strength it helps cultivate.

A superbill is like a detailed receipt you receive after your session. It lists the important information insurance companies need—like the date, type of session, fees, and diagnosis code—so you can request partial reimbursement from your insurance plan.

Here’s how it works in plain language:

  1. You pay for sessions directly after each appointment.

  2. We’ll provide a superbill that includes everything your insurance needs.

  3. You send that superbill to your insurance company (usually online or by mail).

  4. If your plan includes out‑of‑network mental health coverage, your insurance may pay you back for part of the cost.

Every plan is different, so it’s best to call your insurance company to ask what percentage they reimburse for out‑of‑network therapy and if you need to meet a deductible first.

What is a superbill and how does reimbursement work?
Do you accept insurance?

I am an out‑of‑network provider and do not bill insurance directly. This means clients pay for sessions at the time of service and, if eligible, may request reimbursement from their insurance company using a superbill (a detailed receipt for therapy services).

Because I am only licensed to practice in New York, out‑of‑network reimbursement is only available for clients physically located in New York State and who have a New York‑based health insurance plan that includes out‑of‑network mental health coverage.

If you meet those criteria, I can provide a superbill that you submit to your insurance company—they may reimburse you directly according to your plan’s out‑of‑network benefits.
For clients outside New York, sessions are not eligible for insurance reimbursement because therapy can only be legally provided by a therapist licensed in the client’s state at the time of service.
